Squid Game, the new Korean TV show that is blowing up on Netflix, is the thing that everyone is talking about right now. Many are talking bad about it others are talking great. It has divided the public opinion but, at the same time, it has definitely managed to capture everyone’s attention.
To us, at LTB, it has literally won us over. In today’s post we are going to talk about all the reasons why you should watch Squid Game.
It’s definitely a gory and twisted series but one that kept all viewers glued to the screen. Directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, it is set in South Korea and deals with the story of a group of people with atrocious personal pasts and with debts or money problems, who decide to participate in a deadly survival game that offers the winner 45.600,000. 00 Won.
REASONS TO WATCH SQUID GAME
All these players, although different, have in common that they want to give themselves the opportunity of a better life. There are those who have problems with justice, those with debts, those with poverty and those who simply have nothing left to lose. The name Squid Game is taken from the most loved game by Korean children.
In addition to the game itself, Squid Game tells the story of social life in South Korea. From here emerge, and it is in my opinion the main moral of the show, social differences, the constant search for wealth, and even racism (very common in South Korea).
It absolutely deserves to be seen especially because it makes us understand so many things about a country, indeed, unknown to the Western world. Try to go beyond the violence or “cruelty” that you can see but try to understand its meaning.
It reminded me a lot of the movie Hunger Games, but I assure you that the moral is completely different.
I am so happy that this TV series is blowing up because I was, long ago, a huge fan of Korean TV shows, especially KDramas. Korean world and art is getting more and more exposure and they will soon be depopulating the western world on all fronts.
